Shes 12 weeks old today and quite a number. Sometimes she may be so sweet, but other times shes really very harsh. Well, I dont know if harsh is the right word, nevertheless when I tell her No she just gets more upset and runs at me with her teeth bared. I got a little touch collar since she is a pet but I have a question concerning how it should match. When I get 2 prongs out its warm against her throat and I be worried about it being too tight. When I only take 1 prong out, it type of slides down her neck a bit and it circles around her neck and she regularly scratches at it and doesnt stay put. Which will be the best fit? Shes a truly handful and I think the pinch collar is an excellent tool, but I want to make sure it fits right whilst to not cause her any discomfort. You say in the book that you should manage to fall fifty per cent of a hand in there, but I suppose Im just confused regarding how you should judge the match. Please help Im afraid my time is running out to get her to start obeying me. She doesnt see me whilst the Alpha puppy quite yet and its very frustrating to be with her for long periods of time. When I say Duchess, come she only comes when she feels like it. With the crunch collar, whats the easiest way to make sure she comes each time I call her? I dont want to get around yanking on her behalf throat, but in the sam-e time she has to respect me. Any guidelines you can give me o-n making sure she sees me as the manager would be very useful Thanks, Cassidy Beloved Cassidy When I consult with half of a finger space in regard to the proper installation of the touch collar, what I mean is - If the average persons hand is inch wide, then there ought to be aproximately inch of space between the conclusion of the prong and the skin of the dogs throat. So, why dont I just say, 1/4 inch of space? Because it is simpler to determine by sticking your hand beneath the prong than it is to bust out your old senior high school leader. A lot of you publication clients are undoubtedly wondering why I would recommend a pinch collar for a puppy. And my answer is Im not. At the very least perhaps not for many puppies. But there are some puppies wholl not answer a simple diversion or verbal, No. If they are not fixed with this behavior they will bite and cause puncture wounds on your arms and legs. Therefore, in case you have tried another methods for dealing with puppy taking that I have outlined in the book, then youll need to progress to a tiny pinch collar. Also described in-the book. But are not they too young to get a pinch collar? You are probably thinking. The solution is No. They ARE too young for formal obedience training. I.E., Sit, Down, Come, Heel, Stay. Whenever you begin to see the adult teeth come in.. [this should begin. at aproximately 4-to 5 weeks of age.] But a pet SHOULD be fixed for biting... if you have unearthed that directing his awareness of a chew toy or yet another task is not working. Why? Because the mother dog wouldnt allow the puppy to bite her. In the event the puppy hits her too hard, shell turn and bite the throat. From-the puppies perspective, THIS HURTS. But it does not cause injury. And that is why the pet decides not to bite the mother dog any longer. As it does not feel great. Here is the same reason that it is ok to correct a puppy for extremely hard stinging with the pinch collar. The mama dog is replicated by the pinch collar. Trust me on this I have seen 11 week-old Rottweiler puppies and 10 week-old Jack Russell Terrier puppies whod bitten through virtually their owners fingers making use of their needle-like teeth. The owners are very nearly in tears with-the indisputable fact that they might have to put their pet to sleep. Theyve tried all the waste your read inside the dog magazines. Things like shrieking in a voice. Or getting the puppy in the cage. Or turning your back on-the dog. But none of it works on a pet whos intent on biting down as hard as he is able to on your soft, human flesh. Getting back o-n course... Only use common sense, once you correct the puppy. Simply because your vehicle can accelerate as much as 140mph does not mean that you should or must get that fast. The same goes for your touch collar. If you are a grown-up and you may use reason and common sense, then you should really be in a position to target the depth of your correction to appropriately fit your dogs temperament. How will you try this? You test. Then next you should immediately offer him your hand again, if you correct the puppy for biting. If he straight away bites you again...
